Ivan J. Baum, 91, of 233 Ohio Ave., James City died Monday morning at his residence. He was born on Nov. 26, 1929 in Bentz Creek, PA, the son of the late Adam and Elda (Keafer) Baum. On July 9, 1966 in Winchester, VA he married Phyllis Shuss, who survives.

Mr. Baum had worked as a diesel mechanic and had been employed for many years at Jacobus Poklar Motors in Kane. He was a member of the Sheffield VFW, where he served on the Color Guard and the Warren American Legion. Ivan served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army 13th Field Artillery Battalion, 24th Infantry Division from March 1951 to Feb. 1953. He received two Bronze Service Stars. He also served on the U.S. Border Patrol in Laredo, TX.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Lee Baum of Garnersville, NY and two daughters, Nora (Bill) Dunkle of Kane and Amy (Tim) Semelsberger of Patton ,PA; eight grandchildren, Christina Mallery, Cody Baum, Kaylee Baum, Jaycee Baum, Emily and Taylor Dunkle and Katie and Amanda Semelsberger; 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Paul and Ray Baum; and two sisters, Sharlene Olson and Betty Wynn.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service which will take place on Friday July 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. with the Rev. William O'Brien, pastor of St. Callistus Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will take place at St. Benedict's Cemetery in Caroltown.
